Tailored logistics solutions for the mechanical engineering industry.
Greater process transparency, lower logistics costs and increased process quality – these are just three of the advantages of m-solutions. This completely worry-free package was developed for the mechanical engineering industry.
Ronny Goldonienko, Head of Logistics and m-solutions Project Manager, remembers the task that faced the people behind this concept: "We were asked by one of our customers – one of the world's leading producers of metal-cutting machine tools – to come up with a concept to deliver an average of hundreds of different order items a day to goods inward, combining complete loads with general cargo and parcels. This was only going to be possible if we provided an all-inclusive solution."
m-solutions is Gondrand ATEGE's response to this challenge. Small transhipment points (TSPs) are the distribution centres that form the core of this tailored supply chain management system. These consolidation points are set up as close as possible to the customer's production sites, providing the company with transparency in processes involving suppliers, other logistics companies and businesses, and combining orders and shipments – regardless of how many different goods have to be received or dispatched each day.
The TSPs enable us to retain an overview of all our logistics processes. This means we can coordinate suppliers and integrate processes in the best possible way," explains Ronny Goldonienko. The logistics service provider also consolidates the majority of shipments at the various transhipment points and operates a shuttle service to ensure that they are delivered the moment they are needed. Delays or errors in deliveries are proactively communicated to the relevant site, where changes can be made to the production program if necessary. The TSP sends the call-off to the supplier the day before the required parts need to be installed.
m-solutions ensures seamless communication with the help of a supplier platform, which enables data to be exchanged electronically between purchasing, production and distribution. The product also includes services such as pre-assembly of component groups, assembly feeding, packaging management, unloading and installation of machines ready for use by the end customer, and customs clearance. "We have tailored m-solutions to the particular needs of the mechanical engineering industry, pooling all our knowledge of the industry and of individual processes," explains Goldonienko. The advantages to Gondrand ATEGE's partners include a significant reduction in material inventories and a simultaneous improvement in supplier loyalty. Proactive communication has so far has a positive effect on both the number of missing parts and the number of special deliveries required, and faster assembly throughput times are an additional advantage. "All these factors combine to sustainably reduce our customers' shipping and processing costs," Goldonienko concludes.
