Gondrand Atege opens logistics centre in Germany
Gondrand Atege, a member of the Basel-based Swiss transport and logistics group Gondrand, opened a new 6,000 sqm logistics centre for Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) in Nordenham (Germany) in October, after a ten-month construction period.

Gondrand Atege is a long-term logistics partner of the German offshore cable company NSW, for whom it organises procurement and distribution logistics as well as materials management. The new facility is near the coast on the estuary of the river Weser, and the building site presented some special challenges. Soundings were made to a depth of 10 m to ensure that no unexploded Second World War bombs remained on the site. As load-bearing strata are 18 m below ground level, the site had to be secured by 23 m concrete and steel piles before above-ground construction could begin. 369 piles now support a building volume of 70,000 cbm. EUR 8 million was invested in the project.
